Recycling - Glass

n the UK, it is estimated that we use around 3.6million tonnes of glass each year.

Most glass can be recycled, current figures suggest only 752,000 tonnes actually are. Glass can be recycled indefinitely without compromising its quality.

Glass re-processors only require the glass to be separated by colour as different coloured glass is chemically incompatible and certain types of glass - for example, Pyrex - can affect the viscosity of the fluid in the furnace at re-melt stage.

Using recycled glass greatly reduces the amount of energy consumption and CO2 emissions that it would normally take to make glass products from scratch, so it has an even greater effect on protecting our
environment.

The main benefits of recycling glass include:

  • less raw materials used
  • less energy used in the extraction, transportation and processing of raw materials
  • positive impact on our environment and overall lifestyle

For your convenience, White Reclamation will collect glass from your site or alternatively customers can deposit their waste glass at either of our Manchester or Liverpool Reclamation Centres. Contact us for further details.
