White Recycling has helped City West Works, the contracting arm of City West Housing Trust, become the North West’s first ever housing association to recycle 100% of its waste.
The Salford-based social landlord officially went ‘landfill-free’ on the 1 August 2010, meeting their Government-set target of 80 per cent reduction in carbon by 2050.
White Recycling provide City West Works with a skip hire service for the removal of materials such as kitchen units, plaster, rubble, doors and glass stripped from tenants’ homes when repairs and improvements are carried out.
These skips are then collected by the company three times a week and taken to our recycling plant in Eccles, where it is sorted and processed into environmentally friendly bio-mass and flock fuels before being sent to aggregates giant Tarmac.
Lee Galloway, Group Commercial Manager for White Recycling, said: “When we began working with City West 12 months ago we looked at what they were doing and thought we could help them achieve a lot more.
“Being the first housing association to reach a 100% recycling rate is a great achievement. It not only reduces landfill, but also reduces their carbon footprint and even their costs.”
As well as a waste management service, White Recycling also provide City West with monthly reports to help them monitor the amount of waste they produce.
